Thanksgiving. Christmas. Hanukkah. New Year’s Eve. Everyone knows that November and December are THE months for holiday festivities. But these are just a few of the holidays and traditions celebrated around the globe at this time of year. For Force of Nature Productions’ 5th original, holiday-themed short play festival, we invite you to take a trip around the world with us, and discover some of the lesser-known holiday celebrations!
“RUSH Around the World: A Holiday Adventure” features eight new, short plays spotlighting global holidays and traditions such as Diwali, Saint Nicholas Day, Junkanoo, and the Yule Winter Solstice. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you might even learn a little something too!
Brought to life for the first time in 2016, the RUSH is Force of Nature Productions’ unique play festival format, uniting actors, writers, and directors in a collaborative whirlwind of creative energy. “RUSH Around the World: A Holiday Adventure” is our 17th such show.
The premise is simple: playwrights select a handful of prompts by lottery - in this case, a holiday and a corresponding prop (a Yule log, Lunar New Year’s paper lanterns, etc.), another holiday tradition (Italian bingo, KFC for Christmas, etc.), a prop from one of our previous RUSHes, and a randomly drawn director and cast - to author an original, short play. The pieces are then rehearsed, teched, and mounted over the course of just a few weeks. It’s fast, fun and always results in a memorable show for audiences and talent alike.
Plus, in true holiday spirit, this production is a family affair, with real-life spouses, children, and siblings all among our talented ensemble!
